Urban Autism Solutions

Urban Autism Solutions (UAS) is dedicated to transforming outcomes for young adults with autism and related disabilities by creating community-based programs that promote vocational training, independent living, and social connection.

Since 2012, UAS has served more than 1,000 individuals through person-centered initiatives including the UAS West Side Transition Academy, the UAS Life Lab, Network 1212 social programs, and Growing Solutions Farm—a 1.2-acre urban farm in Chicago’s Illinois Medical District. At the farm, transition students from Chicago public high schools (ages 16–22) receive hands-on training in agriculture, food safety, and workplace communication, while developing real-world job skills in a supportive environment.

Each year, about 50 students train during the school year, with an additional 20–25 participating through the One Summer Chicago jobs program. Produce grown at the farm is sold at local farm stands, to restaurants and wholesalers, and through a CSA subscription, with all proceeds supporting vocational training.
