The Rotary Club of Chicago encouraged a young member to start a satellite club, which was a pilot program at the time, which just meant a different time and place to meet, but still a part of the club. After a few years operating somewhat separately, there was enough interest from members to branch off and start a new club on it's own!
Why was the name Chicago Cosmopolitan chosen?
The founder visited the Rotary Club of Austin Cosmopolitan in Texas and had a great time. The name was chosen in honor of that club along with the meaning that it suggests a cosmopolitan city that Chicago certainly is and a nod to the evening meeting time of the club perhaps over a cocktail, a cosmopolitan perhaps!?
